California Shelters are filled with Pets
that if their owners had the proper
knowledge about the breed they
selected and the training and care
they would need , these pets would still
have a loving home. Before you adopt
a pet do some home work on the
breed. Ask questions about its
personality traits. There may also be
costly medical, grooming, training and
nutritional needs that may become
burdensome as he gets older.
Cockers are prone to ear infection and
need monthly grooming.
Many Terriers are born to dig and
chew. Retrievers love to hunt and
roam. Doxies and Chihuahuas can
become nervous and nippy. Talk to
breeders about the personality traits of
the breed you fancy. Call
Dog Lovers
about your your training needs.
Teaching Your Pet his New Name
Your new puppy will love hearing its
name when its related to something
pleasurable. Have his favorite treat
ready when you call your pups new
name . Never call his name to punish
him. He will relate his name to
punishment and will become fearful or
try to hide.

Destructive Chewing
very natural for puppies to do, they
start at an early age, when they are
teething. Then if not directed to chew
only on their chew toys, they will find
other items to chew when they are
bored. Keep dangerous or valuable
items off the floor and your pup in an
area that is off limits from things he
can destroy. Keep plenty of toys
available.

Teaching your pup to walk on leash
The first time you put a leash on your
puppy, he will protest  and think your
trying to hurt him. If you put the leash
on at home while playing with your pup
on the floor, and dispense treats when
you tug on it . He will think its a good
thing and welcome the leash.
Older pets may seem to have
lost their manners. A pet that
would always go out the
doggy door when he needed
to eliminate, is suddenly
having accidents on the
carpet every day. It's not an
untrained pet. It could be a
medical problem. Talk to your
Vet or a Behaviorist.

Question
Got a Pet Behavior Problem?
Ask the Pet Professionals at Dog Lovers
Babies play different than Puppies.
A Puppy can bite too hard playfully,
knocking the baby down while running,
bring dirty chew things to share with
the baby.  The baby can also Bite, hit,
poke and fall on a little Puppy. The
baby could drop the pup while carrying
it and injure the puppy.
Puppies are not Toys for children.
Please monitor you baby and your pet
while they are together, to prevent
accidents.
